Plants For Pollinators In The Classroom

2018 Plants for Pollinators in the Classroom teacher applications is now available HERE.

Plants for Pollinators in the Classroom* (PPIC) is designed to help students in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties discover the important roll native pollinators (bees, butterflies, moths, insects, bats and birds) play in providing many of our food crops, such as melons, blueberries, pears, plums and squash, and to study the relationship between plants and pollinators. An estimated 90% of flowering plants depend on bees and other insects as well as birds and bats for pollination.

Plants for Pollinators in the Classroom free science resource kits were provided to  new schools in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties, and returning schools received seeds and starter soil. Using a lighted plant stand, teachers and students will grow pollinator plants in their classrooms, conduct experiments and lessons, and then plant them in a suitable school or community garden in May. New schools will also receive a small selection of potted plants in May to help jump-start their gardens.
